after intense action sequences, like a brawl, a car chase, possibly other things depending on budget and setting
"what government branch do you work for?"
"oh I don't work for the government, they haven't let anybody who's supposedly 'bipolar' work for them in years."
"Who do you work for?"
I toss the spent projectile weapon in the back seat. "I try not to work for anyone but I like to think im working with several people. Think of the government as a way more decentralized entity with different cells operating within it and those cells are often in cooperation and competition with each other as well as corporate cells and other more personal startups, like me."
"I still dont understand especially what this has to do with me."
I grin, "That's part of what we are trying to figure out, just to survive."
...
As I felt the pull and began phasing between realities, my memories of the one I was leaving was fading much faster than my ability to consciously control the reality I was entering. I tried condensing my memories into the smallest form I hoped would carry over...
Colony
Memory might paint it as lunar colony because of the view of the earth, but this might be misleading with the apparent "Tunnel in the Sky" technology that gets used.
Seemed like a typical joint effort bubble dome colony. There was military funding, corporate sponsership, private sector individuals and just enough labordriven curious pioneers to to tame and design the thing into ... an eventual fiasco.
One section inside the bubble was meant to look more earthlike in layout and architecture, reminisent of a downtown area with retail stores, apartments, and even single level houses. I suppose the grass was likely faux turf but maybe some onboard scientist had created a strain of grass to not only grow in the local soil but also manage to survive with only the occasional street lamp for light.
This colony was slated as an eventual hub for tourism. The icebergs of the planet were being melted as a local source of water. The now liquid water was stored in what was called the holding tank. Maybe your thinking that the tank was just that an enclosed tank of purified water. Maybe if it had been enclosed, pure, and possibly only melted as needed we wouldnt of had the problems we did.
arhg patience running thin, ok MARINE Biology takes on a whole new meaning with swordfish branded and enhanced in the holding tank by the military faction. The tank is actually more like a big pond/small lake. Something goes wrong with the ice dethawer, the town is flooded. As the water levels rise and the inhabitants try to survive, they realize the holding tank was much bigger than they thought and the military was testing submarine technologies along side of splicing a variety or marine life, theres that pun again. After raiding some of the stores to gear up for this semiaquatic survival story. Im sure some people died. Most of the remaining ones were faced with the prospect of either drowning or suffacating in low atmosphere outside when someone opened a Ramsbotham Jump window draining out all the Marine life and possibly some even more alien ones, right over an ocean on Earth. Altho, I am sure the survivors were greatful for being alive, their unanimous response was, "EARTH?!?! You couldnt of chose anything else?"
Letting the giantly branded militant swordfish out was sure to get the press eventually. Like that water the confidential nature of the militarys involvment on the colony was leaked. We on the colony lost our concern for the publicity of the stunt as soon were battling bugs. Apparently the eggs were in the water. The larvae could pupate into practically any form. The first few forms were very buglike, one was more of a blob, and then there came the human form. The agenda now for the scientists was seeing if the these new beings were indistinguishable from any other human child.
